Complete Collection Service in Monterey County Resumes, April 1

Negotiations with LiUNA Local 270 Continue

March 31, 2023 – Despite an ongoing strike by LiUNA Local 270, CMC management has secured additional volunteer drivers and technicians to resume full collection service for trash, recycle and green waste to Monterey County starting Saturday, April 1.

The collection service schedule is as follows:

Saturday, April 1 – Drivers will service trash, recycle, and green waste containers to all customers that were missed on their last Wednesday service day (March 29).
Monday-Friday, April 3-7 – Regularly scheduled collection days will resume, and drivers will service trash, recycle, and green waste containers.

Since the beginning of the strike, CMC has sent phone or email communications to all up to date accounts, and alerted customers of changes to their service, including additional reminder outreach for customers with schedule changes.

“A strike can immediately wreak havoc on any business. However, we are committed to meeting our contractual duties and customers’ expectations, quickly, which we have illustrated in this first week,” said Barry Skolnick, President of USA Waste of California, Inc. “It is our duty and responsibility to support a community that has only recently been able to recover from the devastating floods in the Pajaro area.”

The Monterey County Emergency Operations Center, in conjunction with 3rd party agencies, began managing residential flood debris in Pajaro. Working with the Monterey County Environmental Health Bureau, CMC has been supporting local Pajaro businesses by providing them with extra rolloff or commercial bin service enabling them to dispose of their flood debris. Attention to the Pajaro community is a priority for CMC. Pajaro commercial and rolloff collections were top priority when drivers first deployed after the strike began Monday. Routine residential collection will resume Monday in areas outside of the residential debris management zone in Pajaro.

CMC urges all customers to ensure their account information is up to date. They may do so by going to www.wm.com/login. Should there be any additional changes to service, customers will be alerted via automated calls or emails, but they may also call CMC customer service at 800.321.8226.

With only one exception, all landfills remain open with usual business hours. The Carmel Valley Transfer Station (Pilot Road) is closed March 31 – April 1.
