Sacramento Recycling & Transfer Station utilizes state-of-the-art machinery and sensors to separate recyclable materials that are delivered to the site through single-stream recycling collections. Waste Management recently invested more than $7 million to make SRT one of Sacramento County’s leading recycling centers.
The Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is the size of a city block and relies on more than 100 employees to operate 16 hours a day, 260 days a year. It requires various belts, magnets, optical sorters, blowers and manual sorting all working in tandem to separate materials. After materials are sorted, they are baled and immediately placed on trailer for delivery to a processor.
Recyclables from SRT are shipped to Oregon, Alabama, Southern California, Mexico and China.
